Maine Event

The Governor of Maine has signed into law a bill passed by the legislature that recognizes the right of same-sex couples to wed. Let the revisionism begin:
“In the past, I opposed gay marriage while supporting the idea of civil unions,” Governor Baldacci said. “I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and of equal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage.” (Maine.gov)

So it only takes being beaten to the punch by Iowa, and solid public polling trends, for a Governor to develop a social conscience. Good to know.
